Stonewall Head Start, Inc. | Non-Profit Preschool Agency

Stonewall Head Start, Inc. (SHS, Inc.) is a non-profit preschool agency established in 1968 by President Lyndon B. and Lady Bird Johnson of the Texas Hill Country, offering three Texas Rising Star education centers, specializing in early childhood education and comprehensive early child development. Schools include: (FCP) Fredericksburg Community Preschool, (HCP) Harper Community Preschool and (JCCP) Johnson City Community Preschool, extending childcare services to infants, full-time preschool and after-school care.

Qualifying families may additionally receive support through school’s federal and state-funded partner programs, CCS or CACFP.

CCS offers tuition help and scholarships, making early learning affordable and inclusive. CACFP provides healthy meals to support children's growth and learning. SHS, Inc. served as the area's first all-inclusive preschool to guide children’s pre-primary education from start to finish over fifty years ago.

LBJ-Founded Organization Championed 1968 Education Rights

  • Stonewall Head Start, Inc. (SHS, Inc.) was created over fifty years ago as the first local program to support a child’s complete early education. Started by President LBJ and Lady Bird Johnson, it gave families who had no access before the chance to receive essential preschool services. The Johnsons believed every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn, regardless of background, race, or ability. Today, we continue their mission by offering high-quality, accredited preschool education in the Texas Hill Country, adapting to modern educational needs.
